Bullshit Speech in the Streets

Speech project / book

This project directly extends Bullshit Speech, shifting the source of language from the performance space into the street itself. Three performers — the same group from the previous work — walked different routes through the city. Their speech while moving was recorded, transcribed, and published as a limited-edition book.
The process is based on extracting words and phrases from the urban environment in real time. Language is neither pre-written nor derived from official texts, but emerges from the encounter between moving bodies and space.
One of the routes, performed by the artist himself, extended from Enghelab Street to Enghelab Square, passing along the university and the bookshops. Another performer moved along Hijab Street, while the third worked within the Ghiam metro area. The names, spaces, and routes form part of the linguistic structure of the work.
The resulting text lacks narrative coherence but carries the trace of movement, place, and social condition. The project registers language not as individual expression but as the product of contact between body, space, and historical situation.
